Space Inversion, Literalist Painting Towards Illusion Spatiality was a key consideration in conceiving the work for this exhibition, signifying a shift in approach for two painters. Reflecting on the literalism that emerged out Modernism’s move into both abstraction and the three dimensional, the artists explore ways in which the ‘window’ function of a painting can be carried over to an experience of real space via fragmentation, sensual discordance and illusion.
